Getting ready for a soaking Saturday final during Gold Cup weekend

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to do a project log. It’s been a real busy couple of months, karting-wise, but I’m not complaining in the slightest! To be honest, I’ve never had more fun in my entire life!

One of my teammates, Josh Stanford, volunteered himself to be my chassis tuner to help improve the setup of the World Formula kart after I finished fourth in my first regional race. We’d been noticing some improvements in the kart handling here and again, but given how competitive we had been during the finals of the first Gold Cup race, we’ve really been waiting to take the performance up a notch or two. Rain Shot1

Since taking the step into competition karting this year, I’ve really had to come to grips with driving in wet conditions more often. The fact of the matter is, I need more seat time in the rain to be comfortable, so this weekend I went to my local kart track, PGP Motorsports Park to practice. Continue reading

Project Kyoko- Not the lapping day that I was expecting

This was not how I expected for Kyoko to sit for most of the day…

So after spending Saturday at the indoor karting track, I decided to spend Sunday on the outdoor kart track driving Kyoko. I had heard that PGP Motorsports Park had started a new membership for Lapping Day drivers, and I wanted to get myself one.

After dropping of Kasumi’s old rear spoiler to a fellow Miata friend, so he could work on his ‘Panda-bear’ project (more on that later), I decided I head down to get my membership. Figured while I was down there, I would take a few laps.

Random Snap- An outing with Kyoko

Nice that someone was able to grab a shot of Kyoko during our time out.

A few weeks ago, I was able to take Kyoko out for a run on our local outdoor karting track. It was nice to be able to shakedown the car with some untimed laps, and get to know her a bit better.  I have to say, that I LOVE this car. Much better than ‘Kasumi’ by a factor of 100.

I was planning on changing to Kyoko’s winter tires the next day, so this was as good of time as any to have some fun. The track was a bit slick as it was cold and the sun was already going down. The plan is to spend more time out there over the winter and get more seat-time before spring heats up again.

I believe this was taken on our of our first laps out, because of the brakes being on so far after the turn- in point, but I’m just going to fake it and say that I was trail braking. 😉

Thanks for Michael Ewald and his dad for grabbing pictures that day. So much fun!

Karting out @ PGP- Podium finish, baby!

Today I spent some time up at Pacific Grand Prix, the outdoor gokarting track, to race in one of their league races. I love spending time up at PGP as alot of competitive drivers show up to race League. I competed in the Expert Class, and had an exciting final race, driving from 9th place to a 2nd place spot on the podium!

Maybe, I was thinking about Mark Webber’s China run when I was out there. Anyway, take a look at the pictures. If you have a chance, you have to stop by PGP. It is a blast!
