The first round of the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship is this Saturday, May 26, at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Yes, rally cars racing at a giant NASCAR oval track. I think this is a good fit, The X-games have shown that rally events have been popular and a giant NASCAR speedway offers more room for rally action than does an X-games stadium.
Rallycross is a wheel-to-wheel event held on a three quarter mile circuit with both dirt and paved sections with jumps. The entry list is made up of familiar rally and extreme sports stars, including Marcus Grönholm, Rhys Millen, Dave Mirra, Ken Block, and Tanner Foust. Notably absent is Samuel Hübinette, the Crazy Swede; he’d be perfect for top level rallycross. This will be a fun series to follow. I don’t think there will be a live stream, we’ll probably have to wait for a tape delayed TV show. We’ll share whatever information we can find.
We’ve featured a video of Travis Pastrana’s Dodge Dart before. Below is a video of Tanner Foust’s team testing their Ford Fiestas.
