StartingGrid friend, Pujo! co-driver, and mechanical wizard Doug Chase, of Chase Race shared this video from an event he was crewing at last weekend. I’ll let Doug describe the video, “Last weekend was the Mt. Hood rally and we were crewing for our good buddies at Roshambo Racing. Unfortunately our rally was ended just a little bit early. By a deer.” The video has clear audio that shows a little concern about conditions. Rally is awesome.

Ken Block is taking seriously his efforts to be competitive in the World Rally Championship. Here’s his video diary on getting ready for Rally Finland. The legendary Ari Vatanen makes an appearance.
Good luck Ken!
I’ve always been a fan of vintage motorsport videos. Check out the rally AW-11 around 5:16
We know that Ferdinand A Porsche passed yesterday. I started to think about, if money was no object, what type of 911 would I want to build to honor his memory. Then I remembered that the Janssen Rally Team already built it.
You have to love Senna. Not only did he test for IndyCar, but he also spent time showing an interest in rally driving as well.
One of my goals for 2012 has been to follow other motorsports outside of Formula 1. One of the sports that I decided on was the World Rally Championship.
During the off-season, I found myself interested to know what it took to transform a modern-day road car, into a rally championship winner. Thankfully, the internet has my back and has provided an interesting documentary of WRC team developing cars that were going into the 2011 season.
See the rest of the parts below
To be honest, I haven’t been following much of the World Rally Championship for the last few years. However, after reading Tim’s last post about why I should watch more WRC, it started to get me researching into more rally videos.
One thing I stumbled over was Ford’s 2011 review video of the WRC season.
I heard in the WRC news today that former World Champion Petter Solberg will be joining up with the Ford WRC Squad in 2012. I’m super excited for him. I’ve always liked Solberg, because I feel that Petter really has persevered while getting the short end of the WRC stick lately. I’m excited to watch the season unfold!
Now to buff up on my rally knowledge, so I know what I’m looking at…
Who of our followers watch rally? Where should I start? Know any good rally blogs?
I don’t feature rallying very often, but when I do, I want it to have an impact. Colin McRae was a driver, whom I didn’t learn to appreciate until I was older.
Knowing what I know now, his simple approach and natural talent still amaze me to this day.
I like the idea that Mini is coming back to the World Rally Championship. What I don’t like is that they are using the Countryman as the basis for the WRC Car!
Could Prodrive have picked a bigger car to choose from? Ick. I don’t care about the car dynamics on this one. It looks like an ugly bus.
Take a look at the two photos. Which one looks more fun?
Once the racing gets started, we seem to forget what it took to get event itself setup!
Citroën has proved a nice video to help us remember. (Video after the jump)
We’re starting to get used to the look of those new 1.6 liters in the WRC. We know that Rally Portugal was a while ago, but we wanted you to see this anyway.
One of the things that we love about the French. Predecessor to the C4, the Xsara WRC took Sébastien Loeb to 28 rally wins and three consecutive Driver’s Championship titles from 2004 to 2006. Also this car was used by privateer teams the world over. Epic driver + epic car = Epic Wins.
Good to know that Alain has something to do in his spare time. We would not want him to be bored.
Enjoy the video.
Sometimes you wonder what happened to those people who made great motorcars. This is one of those cars that really should have had a longer run than it did. The concept behind it started as a Group B Rally car, which meant that rules required Ford to build production models to meet homologation requirements.
As a racing car the project only sadly only lasted two years. However, that did not mean that Ford cut any corners.
Edit: Thanks to Youtube (or no thanks), the video has been taken down. I’ll update this post shortly.
Thoughts? We are excited to see the DS3 as a rally car in the WRC, but we’re not sure if this is the color we’re feeling. This car is planning to debut in Rally Portugal.
Oh man, I’ve just had the most earthshatteringly awesome experience in a very long time! I have just experienced my first taste of rally behind the wheel. I attended an introductory rally driving school hosted by DirtFish Rally School.
Let me tell you, these guys are awesome!
Another rally video, just to chat up our time today.
Since some of the SGRID team is out at the rally schools today, we figured it would be appropreiate to post more rally footage.
Sadly, we’re not driving a WRC car, but who cares really? Hopefully we can catch a wiff of this driving essense out of the stages today.
