|Video| 2012 Mt Hood Rally Car Meets Deer

StartingGrid friend, Pujo! co-driver, and mechanical wizard Doug Chase, of Chase Race shared this video from an event he was crewing at last weekend. I’ll let Doug describe the video, “Last weekend was the Mt. Hood rally and we were crewing for our good buddies at Roshambo Racing. Unfortunately our rally was ended just a little bit early. By a deer.” The video has clear audio that shows a little concern about conditions. Rally is awesome.

What does it take to turn a road car into a #WRC winner?

One of my goals for 2012 has been to follow other motorsports outside of Formula 1. One of the sports that I decided on was the World Rally Championship.

During the off-season, I found myself interested to know what it took to transform a modern-day road car, into a rally championship winner. Thankfully, the internet has my back and has provided an interesting documentary of WRC team developing cars that were going into the 2011 season.

I’m going to be watching more rally in 2012…

To be honest, I haven’t been following much of the World Rally Championship for the last few years. However, after reading Tim’s last post about why I should watch more WRC, it started to get me researching into more rally videos.

One thing I stumbled over was Ford’s 2011 review video of the WRC season.

I heard in the WRC news today that former World Champion Petter Solberg will be joining up with the Ford WRC Squad in 2012. I’m super excited for him. I’ve always liked Solberg, because I feel that Petter really has persevered while getting the short end of the WRC stick lately. I’m excited to watch the season unfold!

Now to buff up on my rally knowledge, so I know what I’m looking at… ;)

Who of our followers watch rally? Where should I start? Know any good rally blogs?

Mini Cooper Rally Car- The classic is always better.

I like the idea that Mini is coming back to the World Rally Championship. What I don’t like is that they are using the Countryman as the basis for the WRC Car!

Could Prodrive have picked a bigger car to choose from? Ick. I don’t care about the car dynamics on this one. It looks like an ugly bus.

Take a look at the two photos. Which one looks more fun?

Lunchtime Video: Ford RS200- A forgotten great.

Sometimes you wonder what happened to those people who made great motorcars.  This is one of those cars that really should have had a longer run than it did. The concept behind it started as a Group B Rally car, which meant that rules required Ford to build production models to meet homologation requirements.

As a racing car the project only sadly only lasted two years. However, that did not mean that Ford cut any corners.

Edit: Thanks to Youtube (or no thanks), the video has been taken down. I’ll update this post shortly.
