|Video| Miata owner catches car, then himself on fire #drift #facepalmdrift

I honestly cannot believe this. I can count the people on one hand that I know who would catch the car on fire, keep trying to start it, then catch HIMSELF on fire…before posting the video on Youtube.

Some people’s kids, I guess. At least it gives us something interesting to watch. *Facepalm*

First Autocross After Too Long

image

As I write this, I’m sitting in a truck on the road to San Diego to compete in the 2013 SCCA Pacific Southwest National Tour autocross event in San Diego. You may recall that in my last post, I mentioned some nervousness about jumping into the deep end of competition. To ease my nerves, and get familiar with Sean Green’s new Miata, I entered last weekend’s Western Washington Sports Car Council autocross.

|Project Asuka| – A red-headed homecoming!

Well, it’s the moment that we’ve all been waiting for! Project Asuka has finally arrived on my doorstep!

I’ve been looking for a second project car to act as a backup for Project Kyoko, as well as be some cheap fun for the spring/summer autocross season. Asuka is a car that I purchased from a friend at a price so low, we might as well call it a gift. (Thanks!)

Getting ideas for my new Project Miata.

So for the last few weeks, I’ve been gathering parts for a new Miata project that I’m just about to reveal on |StartingGrid|. The goal is to make a nice little street/track Roadster that will make driving more fun, and take some of the driving duties off solely Project Kyoko.

However in the meantime, I’ve been looking at wave after wave of Roadster videos, getting an idea of some of the crazy ideas that I actually might be able to do with this project. So Roadsterdrift.com, actually has given me a quite ridiculous idea.

The nice thing with a blank slate project car is that you do get a chance to dream ridiculous dreams though. God, isn’t the internet great? Hopefully, I’ll be able to write-up a new post soon on my new project. In the meantime…Youtube!

Drift King Bear – by John Kimball
Artist, racing driver, martial arts pal of Starting Grid, John Kimball has made another cool piece of automotive art. He created this picture for his nephew’s birthday. It’s the Drift King Keiichi Tsuchiya, in teddy bear form, drifting a Miata.

We’ve featured John’s work before: His GT40 and 767B were cool, but not quite as awesome as Drift King Bear.

Who else wants this as a T-shirt?

|Project Kyoko| Not fixed…just less broken.

TJ tries to pretend that you have V8 swapped in…

Just a quick snap of TJ and I playing around with Project K today. The Miata hasn’t been running very smoothly lately. So once again, I have a list of parts to replace longer than my arm. New header, which has cracked again, a few next belts and other odds and ends.

It’ll make for another good post when I get around to fixing all of it. (That’s what I keep telling myself…) Or I will have gotten fed up and just got into another project. ;)

Anyway, stay tuned and I’ll keep you updated with something meaty next time.

|Project Kyoko| – “Got 99 problems, but a VLSD ain’t one.”

20130101_090818

New turnsignals and a ‘new’ VLSD have been the latest updates on Project Kyoko.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a project log update on Project Kyoko. The reason was that she had been off the road for a while with a busted VLSD. The car had an unbearable gear whine that was just terrible. So I spent much of the holiday season messing around with Project MR2, and researching where I could find a suitable 1.6 replacement.
